Jake Sammut Dominates Imola with Double Victory

A perfect weekend for the Project Eversio driver with pole, sprint, and feature race wins in Round 2 of the 2025 season.

The second round of the Malta National F4 Championship 2025 delivered everything fans could hope for with action, drama, and pure racing intensity. Returning to the legendary Imola Circuit, drivers faced one of the most technical and demanding tracks of the season, where focus and consistency were key.

Before lights out, several drivers shared how challenging Imola’s slippery surface can be, especially when pushing an F4 car to its limits. With a short 10-minute qualifying session on such a long circuit, every lap counted, and once again, Project Eversio’s Jake Sammut set the pace early.

Sammut immediately hit the track to maximize his laps, clocking a 1:45.288, three tenths clear of Ilan Dimech Ghirxi and half a second ahead of Aaron Debattista. The session was far from easy, but Jake’s pure pace secured him a dominant pole position.

Off the line, Sammut launched perfectly, with Debattista and Ghirxi right behind. The first lap already saw Jake building a 2-second gap which was a sign of what was to come. Meanwhile, action brewed behind him with Ghirxi overtaking Debattista and Steve Axisa Farrell waiting to pounce.

Imola’s strict track limits and slow-down penalties quickly became a nightmare for many. Debattista was one of the drivers most affected, losing valuable time and positions. Ghirxi continued to show strong pace, impressing in his debut national championship appearance, while Andrew Ellul and Jayden Ellul put on a brilliant battle for the midfield spots.

As the laps unfolded, Sammut stretched his lead with relentless pace and consistency, setting fastest lap after fastest lap. The final moments saw more chaos as Jayden Ellul spun on the last lap, losing his hard-fought position, while Jake crossed the finish line with an 11-second gap over the field, followed by Ilan Dimech Ghirxi in second and Intercomp VMD Simsport driver, Aaron Debattista in third.

The feature race promised more fireworks and it didn’t disappoint. With the top eight reversed on the grid, chaos erupted at turn 1 as Tiashan and Debattista made contact, forcing the latter into yet another recovery drive.

Matthias Scerri briefly led before Steve Axisa Farrell took control, while Andrew Ellul climbed up to second with an impressive start. Moments later, a spectacular four-car battle for second between Ghirxi, Ellul, Debattista, and Jayden Ellul ended in contact, shaking up the order once again.

Amid the chaos, Sammut calmly picked his way through the pack and began hunting down Axisa. Lap after lap, the Project Eversio duo traded fastest laps, but ultimately, Jake’s pace was too strong. With just minutes to go, he took the lead and pulled away to another commanding margin.

Behind him, Axisa held firm to secure second, while Debattista fought back to clinch a hard-earned third after a weekend filled with setbacks.

A clean sweep for Project Eversio and another statement from Jake Sammut, who dominated from qualifying to the final flag.

Round 2 at Imola had everything, from overtakes, penalties, collisions, and incredible comebacks. The championship is heating up fast, and if this weekend was any indication, the battle is only going to get more intense as the grid heads to Red Bull Ring for Round 3, continuing with pure drama and cinema!

SILVER JOFFERT SNATCHES VICTORY IN FINAL LAPS OF THE FORMULA PRO BAKU SPECIAL

Joffert had been quick throughout the event, topping the practice session and taking pole during qualifying. However, a mistake on the opening lap on cold tires dumped him down to 7th position, leaving Ryan Carabott and Dean Vella to battle for the lead. Vella, however, had more pace and overtook Carabott within a handful of laps.

Further down the field, Joffert provided all the entertainment, recovering from 7th to 4th within the first 5 minutes of racing. Before long he worked his way up to Andrea Rizzo in 3rd and dove down the inside of turn 1 to reclaim his podium spot. He did not stay in 3rd for very long though, as he used his pace advantage to scythe past Carabott and begin hunting down Dean Vella for the lead.

To his credit, Vella defended valiantly from Joffert. Unfortunately, a slow pitstop for Vella drained the 5 second gap he built in the early stage of the race and brought Joffert close enough to challenge. After 10 minutes of trying to get within DRS, Joffert finally made a move stick at turn 3, before pulling a decent gap to Vella.

That was not the end of the story, however, as Vella kept his head down and slowly worked his way to within a second of Joffert, giving him a second chance at the victory. He tried three different overtakes but made two crucial mistakes that stunted his progress and gave Joffert enough of a gap to retain the lead until the flag.

Joffert, after a dismal start, won the race by barely a second ahead of Vella, with Carabott quietly holding on to the final podium position.
